🛂 Part 1: ASILE (Demande d’asile) – What is an asylum application, who can apply, and what is the process?
Translated from Bengali.
In France, Asile (asylum) does not simply mean a “visa” or “papers.”
It means that if you return to your own country, your life, freedom, or safety would be at serious risk.
The French state then provides you protection under international law.
✅ Who can apply for asylum
Under French law, an asylum application can be made if—
• You are subjected to persecution because of your political opinion, activities, or affiliations
• You face threats or violence because of your religion, ethnic identity, or social group
• The state is unable or unwilling to protect you
• The fear of persecution is real, personal, and provable
⚠️ Poverty alone, not finding work, or general insecurity are not the sole grounds for asylum.
🔎 Asile process – step by step (in simple language)
Step 1: Demande d’asile registration
First, you register your asylum application (the process begins through GUDA / Préfecture).
Step 2️⃣: Submit the OFPRA dossier
Here, the 2 most important things are:
• Récit d’asile (personal account)
• Preuves (evidence, if any)
Step 3️⃣: Entretien OFPRA
The OFPRA officer will listen to you, ask questions, and verify:
• How cohérent (consistent) your story is
• How clear the dates, events, and roles are
• How personal and real your fear is
Step 4️⃣: Décision
• Accepté → Refugé or Protection subsidiaire
• Refusé → Right to appeal to the CNDA
✍️ Why is the Récit d’asile (personal account) the most important?
Under French law, the récit must be written by you yourself.
❌ No one can “make up a story” for you in your place
❌ False or fabricated information is seriously risky
